LOS ANGELES — When singer-songwriter Frank Ocean took the witness stand Tuesday, he was cross-examined by his father — a pro se litigant suing him for libel. It was their first encounter in 24 years.

U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson granted plaintiff Calvin Cooksey a great deal of leeway in terms of making his case, allowing him to push forward with several potentially objectionable lines of questioning.
