In an ironic twist, a lawsuit claims that notices mailed by health insurer Aetna Inc. regarding an AIDS privacy settlement further breached privacy rights of 12,000 individuals by disclosing their HIV status.
The lawsuit, filed Oct. 20 in Contra Costa County Superior Court, claims the letters were in envelopes with oversized windows revealing enrollees as HIV medication recipients.
