State Bar staff want attorneys to pay re-fingerprinting costs

Lawyers submitted fingerprints when applying to the bar, but they were not kept.

State Bar staff is recommending licensed California attorneys be required to pay virtually all of the $15.5 million it will cost for them to be re-fingerprinted and have their prints submitted to law enforcement.

The roughly 190,000 active attorneys would have to pay an average of $82 for the resubmission of fingerprints they initially provided when applying for a license, according to a staff memo the bar’s board will discuss Friday...
