Lee Harris grew up fighting antisemitism in his native Ohio. He vows to bring that toughness to his new role as president of Consumer Attorneys of California, the association of plaintiffs' lawyers.

SAN FRANCISCO — The new president of the Consumer Attorneys of California learned to be tough growing up Jewish in Toledo, Ohio.

Lee S. Harris was used to the occasional slurs, he said, but one day while walking home from elementary school things got physical.

“A kid started calling me names because of my religion,” Harris said. “He pushed me down. I stood up and punched him.”
