The State Bar took further steps Friday toward splitting off its trade association functions so the regulatory agency can focus on protecting the public from unethical lawyers.
The bar’s board of trustees authorized staff to finalize and execute an agreement detailing the separation of the bar’s specialty practice groups, known as sections, into a private nonprofit called the California Lawyers Association.
