State, BP reach $102M settlement over alleged gas overcharges

Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced a $102 million settlement with BP Energy Company over allegations it intentionally overcharged the state for natural gas.

SACRAMENTO — Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced a $102 million settlement with BP Energy Company over allegations it intentionally overcharged the state for natural gas.

The settlement covers three contracts to purchase gas between 2003 and 2012.

In November, a San Francisco County Superior Court judge ruled Becerra could move forward with a lawsuit seeing as much as $300 million in damage...
