The government announced significant changes Wednesday to how it will process applications for asylum in the U.S. in what it said was a bid to streamline the process and combat fraud.

The U.S. government announced significant changes Wednesday to how it will process applications for asylum that it said was a bid to streamline the process and combat fraud.

Critics of the changes said they addressed problems that had not existed for decades and amounted to an attack on immigrants fleeing persecution and another example of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement tactics.
