Second case appeals police refusal to remove name from gang database

A man has taken legal action against the City of San Diego and the San Diego Police Department for their refusal to remove his name.

In the second such case in California since the enactment of a new law, a man has taken legal action against the city of San Diego and the San Diego Police Department for their refusal to remove his name from the gang member database, known as CalGang.

On Jan. 1, 2017, a statute went into effect that required notification of individuals of their addition to the gang database.
