Attorney accused of stealing from clients arrested

A Southern California personal injury attorney accused of stealing at least $8.6 million from 73 clients and fleeing to Costa Rica was arrested on a federal complaint.

LOS ANGELES -- A Southern California personal injury attorney accused of stealing at least $8.6 million from 73 clients and fleeing to Costa Rica was arrested on a federal complaint.

Philip J. Layfield, a co-founder of Layfield & Barrett APC in Irvine, was nabbed in New Jersey on Feb. 26 and jailed without bail. He is awaiting transfer to Los Angeles.
