More nonviolent drug criminals could avoid California prisons next year under a bill passed by a key Senate committee.
SACRAMENTO — More nonviolent drug criminals could avoid California prisons next year under a bill passed by a key Senate committee on Tuesday.
SB 1025 would make inmates guilty of several crime involving heroin, PCP and methamphetamine eligible for probation or suspended sentences. It is co-sponsored by the California Public Defenders Association and the Drug Policy Alliance.
