A Los Angeles County judge has taken charge of the task of handling sexually violent predator cases as quickly and fairly as possible.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge William Ryan has taken charge of dealing with all of the court's sexually violent predator cases. His goal is to move as expeditiously as possible.

LOS ANGELES -- On a Monday in Department 56 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, a balky video link to Coalinga State Hospital was testing Judge William Ryan's patience.

"How do we turn the sound off on my unit, short of me throwing this thing on the floor?" Ryan asked a pair of clerks bustling to adjust mics and wires.
