9th Circuit ‘liberal lion’ Stephen Reinhardt dies at 87
Stephen R. Reinhardt, a liberal icon of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, who was outspoken about his judicial philosophy and concern for the downtrodden, has died, a day after his 87th birthday.
Stephen R. Reinhardt, a liberal icon of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, who was outspoken about his judicial philosophy and concern for the downtrodden, died Thursday, two days after his 87th birthday.
A court spokesman confirmed his death. Fellow 9th Circuit Judge Milan D. Smith Jr. said that his colleague suffered a heart attack while visiting a doctor.
