State Bar seeks comment on ethics rule
Proposed Rule 1.2.1 could provide guidance for lawyers advising marijuana industry clients.
Public comment is being sought on amending an attorney ethics rule prohibiting lawyers from advising or assisting clients with the violation of laws.
Despite the prohibitions, proposed Rule of Professional Conduct 1.2.1 would allow attorneys to “counsel or assist a client to make a good faith effort to determine the validity, scope, meaning, or application of a law, rule, or ruling of a tribunal.”
