Congressman indicted on federal campaign finance charges
Rep. Duncan D. Hunter, R-Alpine, was indicted Tuesday on charges of violating campaign finance laws. Federal prosecutors said that the incumbent congressman converted hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign funds to make $250,000 in personal purchases.

The representative suggested the timing of the indictment was motivated by a desire to hand his seat to a Democrat in the November election.
