Family sues Lyft over passenger death
Justin Michael Lavelle, 23, was being transported by Lyft driver Tariq Rasheed on Jan. 31 shortly after midnight when Lavelle was struck and killed by a car after Rasheed allegedly ejected him from the vehicle on the side of the 110 freeway, according to the wrongful death complaint.
The family of a man who died in January on a Los Angeles freeway following an altercation with a Lyft Inc. driver has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the ride-hailing company and the driver, raising the issue of legal responsibility for transportation companies if drivers abandon passengers in risky areas.
