Two bills addressing the backlog of untested rape kits are making their way through the Legislature this week, with one headed to the governor's desk and another awaiting a final vote.

The number of untested rape kits in the state is unknown, but the issue received wide attention with the recent arrest of suspected Golden State Killer Joseph DeAngelo Jr.
