Santa Clara County agrees to improve inmate conditions to settle lawsuit

Santa Clara County will improve inmate living conditions as part of a long-pursued settlement to address alleged unconstitutional use of solitary confinement, abuse by guards and inadequate medical treatment and accommodations, among other claims.

Santa Clara County will improve jail inmate living conditions as part of a long-pursued settlement to address allegations of unconstitutional use of solitary confinement, abuse by guards and inadequate medical treatment and accommodations, among other claims.

The agreement came three years after an inmate-rights group sued the county over inhumane jailhouse practices, primarily solitary confinement.
