SB 10, the recently signed bill that eliminates cash bail, has a long way to go until it's enacted: A year if things go well, two if it's blocked by a voter referendum quickly gaining signatures thanks to the Golden State Bail Bondsmen and like-minded groups. But as the threat of losing bail looms, more attention is being paid to the alternative methods by which judges determine whether or not to release defendants on their own recognizance.
