There was a significant jump in Freedom of Information Act lawsuits last quarter, according to a new report that found a backlog of such lawsuits in federal court has reached a record high.
It is unclear if the increase in lawsuits seeking government records was a result of an administration more prone to secrecy or if political division was galvanizing more organizations to more aggressively pursue records, experts said.
