Lawyer-legislators on the decline in Sacramento, but only on the GOP side

If it seems like there have been fewer attorneys in the California Legislature in recent years, it’s because there have been — mainly on the Republican side of the aisle.

SACRAMENTO -- If it seems like there have been fewer attorneys in the California Legislature in recent years, it's because there have been -- mainly on the Republican side of the aisle.

The change could also reflect an overall decline in GOP power in California. Gone are the days when Republican attorneys like Dick Ackerman and Chuck Poochigian wielded actual power in the halls of the state Senate.
