Student loan watchdog partners with UCI Law to research debt crisis

A former federal student loan official launched a nonprofit Wednesday, in conjunction with UC Irvine School of Law, to protect student loan borrowers.

Top student loan ombudsman Seth Frotman resigned from his position at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in September, accusing the bureau of “turn[ing] its back on young people and their financial futures.” Frotman, alongside former bureau colleagues, launched the Student Borrower Protection Center nonprofit Wednesday, hoping to protect the student loan borrowers he claims the federal government is abandoning.
