Bill would nix jury fees for legislative staff

While many legislative staff jobs come with low pay, it’s unlikely the bill would cause hardship, given that it’s policy to continue to pay staff serving on juries.

State Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins had an odd early Christmas gift to legislative staff this year: a bill clarifying they’re not eligible to be paid for jury duty.

SB 60, proposed Dec. 19, would simply add the words “by the Legislature” to the Code of Civil Procedure section, which dictates public employees “who receive regular compensation and benefits while performing jury service” are not eligible to be paid the standard...
