‘Queen and Slim’: Not the same as ‘Bonnie and Clyde’

The movie is provocative because they are believable. You cannot leave the theatre without wanting to discuss what has transpired.

The just-opened movie "Queen and Slim" might have been controversial, but the frequency of African-Americans shot by law enforcement officers without justification in the headlines means it faces the opposite risk, of becoming cliché. Movies have long been a means by which we measure the spirit of the times. They remain a shared experience, these stories by which we attempt to make sense out of the world.
