Transparency needed in California bar exam results
Several recent articles in the Daily Journal have reported serious problems with the State Bar of California’s statistical reporting of race/ethnicity results for the July 2019 bar exam.

Mitchel is president and dean of a non-profit California accredited law school system that includes Monterey College of Law, San Luis Obispo College of Law, and Kern County College of Law. He was one of eight deans invited by the California Supreme Court to an informal meeting in October 2019 to discuss concerns about the California bar exam. He is former chair of the Committee of Bar Examiners Rules Advisory Committee and a former member of the Law School Council representing the California Accredited Law Schools.
Several recent articles in the Daily Journal have reported serious problems with the State Bar of California's statistical reporting of race/ethnicity results for the July 2019 bar exam. This is the same exam in which a bar staff member's error resulted in pre-releasing the six essay topics the week before the exam. In the current situation, it appears that for the first time since at least 2007, the State Bar did not collect or report accurate race/ethnicity data for examinees.
