Happy 100th, Loyola Law School!

We first opened our doors in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1920 at 7:30 p.m. It was an evening-only program with eight students. There was no full-time faculty and no administration. A modest collection of books served as a library. Tuition for the year was $90, payable in four installments of $22.50.

LMU Loyola Law School first opened its doors in downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 8, 1920. Top: It started out as an evening program in what is now Loyola High School. Later, LLS moved to Third and Broadway, inaugurating its Day Division in 1930. Bottom: It then moved to Grand Avenue. But it was not long before an expanding student body required more space, inspiring the transition in 1964 to its current Albany Street location, where Frank Gehry designed a "campus designed for the study of law."
