Ventura County District Attorney Gregory D. Totten will retire next year after nearly four decades in the office, he announced.

Totten said in a Tuesday statement, he accepted an offer to serve in Sacramento as the chief executive for the California District Attorneys Association, which he previously served as president and executive director.
