UCLA agrees to pay $73M to settle cases involving gynecologist

The University of California board of regents has reached a preliminary settlement of $73M with patients who said they were sexually abused and assaulted by a former UCLA gynecologist and obstetrician.

Seven women who said they were sexually abused by a UCLA medical doctor reached a preliminary $73 million settlement with the UC Board of Regents.

The plaintiffs are seven former patients of gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. James Heaps, who left his post with UCLA in June 2018. Heaps was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual battery in June 2019. His criminal case is pending.
