Attorneys among least diverse groups in Legislature
The 25 Democratic attorneys in the Assembly and Senate aren’t much more diverse than the 28 total Republicans now in office. The 11 Democratic attorneys who will serve in the Senate in 2021 are a less varied group than the nine total Republicans across the aisle.
If asked which subset of California legislators is most dominated by white men, many people would likely say "Republicans." But they would be wrong.
A better answer: attorneys.
To be fair, an even more correct answer would be "Republican attorneys," since all four GOP legislators with law degrees are men of European descent. But the 25 Democratic attorneys in the Assembly and Senate aren't much mor...
