George Gascón to be sworn in as 43rd district attorney for Los Angeles County

Gascón said he wants to build bridges with prosecutors in his office who oppose his views on the criminal legal system.

George Gascón, the former San Francisco County District Attorney who resigned in 2019 to run for that office in Los Angeles, where he spent nearly 30 years as a police officer, will be sworn in Monday as the county’s 43rd district attorney.

Gascón defeated two-term incumbent Jackie Lacey in an expensive and bitter runoff election last month that took center stage in the national debate around policing and incarceration.
