Private party Facebook antitrust lawsuits hint at outcomes for government cases

Facebook indicated in the litigation cited by federal and state officials in their complaints that it “anticipates raising similar defenses,” including that the “claims are untimely.”

Accusations that Facebook acquired Instagram and WhatsApp to illegally further its monopoly culminated in antitrust lawsuits filed by 48 state attorneys general and the Federal Trade Commission, but a federal judge has already dismissed identical claims against the tech giant over the acquisitions in a case in California.
