LA DA seeks to 'paper' judge

Stating Judge Shellie Samuels was prejudiced against the DA’s office, newly appointed Chief Deputy District Attorney Joseph F. Iniguez sent an email to the court, asking that she be removed from further matters filed by the DA’s office.

A potential clash between Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon and county judges refusing to accept his policy to do away with sentencing enhancements could create a major strain on the court system if the conflict escalates, an expert says.

In a memo to his deputies this month, Gascon directed them to file motions to dismiss sentencing enhancements such as prior convictions and gang membership in all criminal matters....
