Democratic Senate gives Biden leeway to name US judges

California attorneys involved in vetting judges said the Democratic majority in the Senate, with the help of a tie-breaking vote by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, will affect who is nominated for vacant positions.

The Democrats' victory in the Georgia Senate runoffs Tuesday has changed how President-elect Joe Biden will likely fill judicial vacancies in California, where he already will have a dozen openings to fill upon taking office Jan. 20.
