LA city attorney appeals $2.5M sanction in water bill case

The city’s current outside counsel, Eric George of Browne George Ross O’Brien Annaguey & Ellis LLP argued in court in October that PricewaterhouseCooper had sought the sanctions in an untimely manner and that Los Angeles County Judge Elihu M. Berle did not have jurisdiction to impose sanctions after the case was dismissed.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office is appealing a $2.5 million sanctions award by a judge who found the office committed "serious" discovery abuses in a utility overbilling lawsuit.

City Attorney spokesman Rob Wilcox said he had "no further comment," after sharing the notice of appeal with the Daily Journal on Wednesday.
