After $107M damages were tossed, Sacramento mining dispute not over

The case involves a more than 80-year-old mine outside of Sacramento. It began more than a decade ago when the mine’s operators got into a dispute with the Sacramento Regional Air Quality Management District over permits and zoning.

Sacramento County dodged a bullet in August when the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a damages award of nearly $107 million was excessive. But nearly six months later, the sides have still failed to reach a settlement for a lower amount.
