Suit against manufacturers over plastic pollution sent to state court

Despite the food, beverage and product makers insisting the lawsuit raises substantial governmental issues and is blocked by federal law, U.S. District Judge Haywood Gilliam found that Earth Island Institute can pursue relief for its claims under state law.

A federal judge in Oakland on Tuesday sent back to state court a lawsuit against major food, beverage and product manufacturers that seeks to hold them accountable for polluting oceans and waterways with plastic.
