Longtime federal defender in San Francisco is leaving post

Steve G. Kalar has stepped down as federal defender of the Northern District of California after eight years as the chief and more than 20 years with the office.
An acting federal defender has not been named to fill Kalar's place after his resignation, which was effective Friday.
