Weather Channel must face trial over tracking app users
U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar rebuffed arguments from the International Business Machine-owned company that users consented to having their location tracked when they downloaded the app and that it adequately disclosed its data gathering policies.




The Weather Channel, which operates one of the most popular mobile weather apps, must face a class action accusing it of tracking users and selling their location data even when the app is closed, a federal judge in Oakland ruled Wednesday.
