Former President Donald Trump was notorious for failing to cooperate with investigations by Congress, agency inspector generals, or the press and media. He promised to "open up our libel laws so that when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money." He regularly labeled the press and media "enemies of the people" and "fake news" whenever they fact-checked him or criticized his performance as president.
