San Joaquin County judge appointed

The San Joaquin County Superior Court now has a full complement of judges.

Gov. Gavin Newsom named Patrick J. Smalling to an open judge position on the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Thursday.

Smalling, 53, has been with the San Joaquin County public defender's office since 2004 and spent three years as the supervising attorney of the misdemeanor unit. He's a graduate of New College of California School of Law and volunteered as a deputy public defender in San Francisco at the beginning of his career....
