Altria Group must face RICO claims in vaping lawsuits, judge says

Despite Altria and former Juul executives maintaining they were merely operating in the ordinary course of business, U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick advanced on Wednesday allegations they led an illegal enterprise that fueled a public health crisis by plotting to grow the e-cigarette company’s popularity among teenagers.

Altria Group Inc. must face racketeering claims in lawsuits alleging it used Juul Labs in a scheme to deliberately advertise and sell vaping products to young people, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.
