California appeals federal judge’s striking of assault gun ban

Attorney General Rob Bonta said he will also ask the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to stay Senior U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez’s order pending the conclusion of the appeals process.

Attorney General Rob Bonta on Thursday appealed a federal judge's decision to strike the state's 32-year-old assault weapons ban, contending that the law was crucial for public safety.

The state's newest top prosecutor said he will also ask the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to stay Senior U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez's order pending the conclusion of the appeals process.
