Garland reverses Trump-era rules for seeking asylum
The new rules will allow gang violence and domestic abuse as considerations for asylum.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday reversed a Trump administration decision that ruled out asylum for people who said they were victims of gang violence and domestic abuse.
A second ruling vacated a decision by former Attorney General William Barr to not allow members of a nuclear family to qualify as a particular social group eligible for asylum.
