Prisoner who toasted LA DA policy gets new trial for another reason

The defendant, Phillip Dorsett, made headlines this spring when the California District Attorneys Association released a video showing him toasting a special directive by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon with a glass of moonshine.

Pointing to misconduct by a now-retired Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, a state Court of Appeals panel reversed a second-degree murder conviction and remanded the case for a third jury trial.
