Urgency bill to extend eviction moratorium clears Assembly Judiciary committee

Assemblyman David Chiu, D-San Francisco, the author of the bill, AB 832, began the hearing by noting the current eviction ban expires on Wednesday, the last day of June.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee passed a bill extending the state’s eviction moratorium until the end of September by a party-line 7-3 vote on Monday.

The bill would go into effect immediately if the Legislature passes it and Gov. Gavin Newsom signs it.
