Avenatti’s cross of paralegal appears disjointed, shaky

Avenatti lurched from topic to topic ranging from what he supposedly did with a private plane he bought to what checks came into his law firm and where the money went. He rambled about out-of-state mediations in unrelated cases in which he was involved, leading to a volley of objections from the prosecution, citing lack of relevance.

In the first week and a half of his trial on federal criminal charges, Michael J. Avenatti's defense of himself has been sharp and clear despite having virtually no experience practicing criminal law.

But on Wednesday afternoon, as Avenatti began a highly anticipated cross examination of his former paralegal, the lawyer's performance turned disjointed and shaky, and at least two jurors appeared to nod off.
