Suit against YouTube over ads targeting minors is preempted

U.S. District Judge Beth L. Freeman in San Jose ruled that the lawsuit is preempted by the Children’s Online Privacy Collection Act because the law does not have a private right of action.

Google's YouTube will not have to face a lawsuit accusing it of illegally collecting data on minors.

YouTube secured dismissal on Monday after attorneys representing the proposed class said they will not file a fourth amended complaint.

Google's and plaintiffs' attorneys at Pritzker Levine LLP and Silver Golub & Teitell LLP did not respond to requests for comment.
