FTC warns mergers not OK’d unless fully investigated

“Collectively, these actions raise the costs of doing mergers and threaten to chill harmful and beneficial deals alike,” said Republican FTC commissioner Christine Wilson.

The Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice have historically taken a lenient approach to merger enforcement, but federal regulators may be signaling they will increasingly challenge deals as part of an effort to address the consolidation of industries by a handful of companies.
