Ex-defenders shouldn’t handle death appeal as DAs, victims’ family says

A judge plans to rule Sept. 14 on a request to disqualify whether two Los Angeles County prosecutors or the entire district attorney’s office from participating in a death penalty petition involving a man convicted of murder in 1998.
