Newsom appoints Court of Appeal justice, 22 superior court judges
Polls show Newsom is likely to survive the Sept. 14 vote, but he appears to have picked up his pace in naming judges, having now appointed 41 judges and five appellate justices since the recall qualified for the ballot in June.




Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed 22 judges and one appellate justice on Friday, just 11 days before facing voters in a recall election. The group includes Victor A. Rodriguez, a veteran staff attorney on the California Supreme Court, who was nominated as an Associate Justice of the 1st District Court of Appeals, Division 3.
