Disbarred lawyer who fled to Costa Rica convicted of 22 felonies

Former personal injury lawyer Philip J. Layfield was found guilty of wire fraud, mail fraud and tax evasion.

A federal jury in Orange County has found a disbarred California lawyer guilty of 22 felonies after he stole millions of dollars from clients.

Former personal injury lawyer Philip J. Layfield was found guilty of wire fraud, mail fraud and tax evasion on Aug. 26. Following the verdict, Layfield was sent back to federal custody.
